Heat SAFETY
06/24/2024
Tunica County is under a heat advisory today! It is 9:00 a.m. and already warm outside today. Please be mindful of the heat!
Heat index values up to 109 degrees expected.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Try to limit
strenuous activities to early morning or late evening.
Each year, dozens of children and untold numbers of pets left in parked vehicles die from hyperthermia, which occurs when the body absorbs more heat than it can handle.
Studies have shown that the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rapidly rise to a dangerous level for children, pets and even adults.
Leaving the windows slightly open does not significantly decrease the heating rate. The younger the child the more severe the effects because their bodies have not developed the ability to efficiently regulate its internal temperature.
PLEASE do not leave your loved ones in your vehicles. IF YOU SEE A CHILD UNATTENDED IN A HOT VEHICLE CALL 9-1-1.
Be sure that all occupants leave the vehicle when unloading.
