LOCATION: OLD SUB AREA - GAY STREET

TUNICA, MS 37686    

              

DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT: 

 

On Monday night, September 23, 2019, approximately 10:05 p.m. the Tunica County Sheriff's Office Communication Center (911 Center) received several calls reporting possible gun shots fired on or near Gay Street located just north of Tunica town limits.  

 

After receiving these reports, deputies were dispatched to the area. Upon arriving on the scene, deputies discovered a black male with gunshot wounds. After obtaining this information, the Communications Center dispatched Pafford Ambulance Service and Tunica Volunteer Fire Department (First Responders) to the scene.  

 

Officers were advised of a vehicle attempting to leave the area traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies were able to stop the vehicle just blocks away from the scene and detained the driver for further investigation.  

 

The driver was later identified as Quinnardo Gates, 32, a black male, of Tunica, Mississippi. Gates who was charged with a felony for a felon in possession of a firearm and remains in custody at the Tunica County Jail. 

 

The victim was identified as Mack Bowen, 19, of Tunica, Mississippi. Bowen was pronounced dead on the scene by deputy coroner. His body was transported to the Mississippi Crime Lab (Medical Examiner's Office) for an autopsy. 

 

While on the scene, Deputies discovered several casings in the area and one weapon was recovered. Also, two (2) vehicles have been sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Batesville, Mississippi for processing of evidence. 

 

The investigation is ongoing, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting the Tunica County Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
